Eric Erdman’s life is a story of extraordinary resilience and purpose.
Born at just 25 weeks, weighing only 1 lb. 15 oz., Eric entered the world fighting for survival. That fight continued throughout his childhood, marked by learning disabilities and, at just 11 years old, experiences of bullying and abuse. These early traumas shaped him into a quiet, introverted child who carried his pain in silence.
After his family relocated to Millersburg, Pennsylvania shortly after his 13th birthday, Eric found an outlet that would change his life. He turned to the school gym, training relentlessly before and after school. What began as physical conditioning became a source of strength, discipline, and healing—helping him reclaim confidence and a sense of control over his own story.
At 16, Eric faced his greatest challenge when he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain cancer, Anaplastic Grade III Ependymoma. He endured multiple brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. When treatment options were exhausted and he was given only months to live, Eric responded in a way that defined who he truly was.
The once-reserved teenager found his voice. Eric often said that cancer, as devastating as it was, gave him the courage to fight—not only for himself, but for others who felt unheard. In the face of uncertainty, he chose purpose over fear and used his voice to create change.
Out of this determination, Eric founded the T.E.K. Foundation CC, Inc., now known as Give a Child a Voice. His mission was clear and deeply personal: to empower children to speak up and be heard. Eric lived by the belief that “It is more painful to be silent than to break the silence,” a principle that became the foundation’s guiding truth.
Eric viewed life as a book, with each person as the author of their own chapters. He believed no child’s story should be written by abuse, bullying, illness, or fear. His message encouraged children to take ownership of their narrative and find strength in their voice.
In 2016, Eric was presented with the opportunity to make a wish—but he chose to make an impact instead. With a vision far exceeding the scope of a single wish, Eric personally led an ambitious effort to transform his high school gym into a state-of-the-art space where students could build both physical and mental strength. Through sponsorships, grassroots fundraising, and donated equipment, Eric generated a project valued at more than $300,000—an extraordinary achievement driven by his leadership, determination, and ability to rally a community around a cause.
The result was the Give a Child a Voice Fitness Center—a refuge where young people could escape life’s challenges, regain confidence, and discover their own voices.
Today, Eric’s legacy lives on through Give a Child a Voice and the Voices of Tomorrow initiative. His life stands as a powerful testament to resilience, courage, and the impact one determined voice can have. Through hardship, purpose, and compassion, Eric continues to inspire children everywhere to break the silence and believe that their voice matters.
Rest in Peace to the Heart Behind the Mission
Our founder believed deeply in the power of a child’s voice. What began as one vision has grown into a movement of awareness, support, and hope.
Though Eric has passed, his spirit remains woven into every story we share and every child we stand beside.
His legacy lives on through this work.
